GBG, the experts in digital identity, entrusts team members to work ‘When and Where You Want,’ in a move away from the traditional nine-to-five

  • The UK headquartered company announces policy that all team members from across the globe can work ‘When and Where They Want.’ Working hours can be flexible, as well as location
  • On the back of record financial results, GBG has pushed forward the policy to enable employees to manage the balance between work and home life
  • Team members will also be able work up to 90 calendar days away from home, potentially abroad, each calendar year
  • GBG is currently looking to hire 100+ new recruits for roles globally

Tuesday July 13, 2021, LONDON: GBG, the experts in digital identity, has launched its new policy ‘Work When and Where You Want’ – empowering employees to flex the timings and location of their work.

On the back of record financial results, the UK headquartered company has pushed forward the policy to enable its global team to have a better work-life balance. In a move away from the traditional nine-to-five, GBG team members will not have to stick to set contractual working patterns and will be given more flexibility to complete their working hours around their personal life.

The philosophy of working when and where you want means the team member gets the job done, meets their objectives and are successful in their role, rather than count down or bank hours.

The company has over 1,000 employees across 15 countries. The new policy will apply to all GBG’s global workforce. The company will keep its offices open across the globe and they will continue to be available for team members to work from or hold meetings in.

Work when you want

GBG will provide flexibility for team members to agree with their manager a working pattern that works for them, in the context of their role and home life. This pattern can alter each week, giving team members greater flexibility.  Team members will have to complete their contracted minimal hours but are able to complete them in a time that works for them - rather than during a traditional nine-to-five.

Work When You Want - examples

Example 1 - A team member may have an early morning call with another time zone. They could start work at 7am, break to do the school run and then come back online at lunch time to complete their working day.

Example 2 - A team member has an afternoon exercise class every Tuesday.  After speaking with their manager, it is agreed that they can either start work earlier and finish ahead of their afternoon class, or they can start at 9am, break away for their class, and then complete the rest of their work later that day.  It’s up to them to manage.

Work where you want

GBG wants to give its employees a choice of where they can work legally and compliantly. This could mean working from home permanently, spending some time working from a coffee shop, or splitting time between the home and the office.

And, for up to 90 calendar days (13 weeks) per year, team members will be offered the option to work ‘away’ from home – this can be in a different country completely providing it’s possible for the person to continue their role effectively and legally. This will allow the team flexibility to visit their families, friends and be able to travel to other locations.

Work Where You Want - Examples

Example 1 - A member of the sales team could have a holiday home in Portugal. When they travel to the country they could work for 15 days, under the Work When and Where You Want policy, and then take 15 days annual leave - enabling them to enjoy their holiday home location for six weeks, rather than three.

Example 2 - If an employee that works in the UK has family abroad in India, they can visit their family but choose to work during their time abroad – providing they can fulfil their tasks and have agreed a working pattern and communication updates with their manager.

Continued growth at GBG

AIM-listed GBG posted record financial results in June and is continuing to grow at a rapid pace. It currently has 100+ roles open across the globe. Interested applicants are encouraged to visit www.gbgplc.com/en/careers or email behired@gbgplc.com.

James Miller, Chief People Officer at GBG, said: “Work is something you do, not somewhere you go. There is no such thing as the typical nine-to-five workday, especially in a global business where there are requirements to attend meetings in different time zones. The past 18 months have proven that our team can deliver record results when working remotely. Now we want to entrust our team to work when and where they want.

“We know that personal life and work can clash. In companies which insist on a normal nine-to-five, you could be counting down the minutes to when your working day ends so that you can go and join a family celebration, or you could be panicking because you have to drop the kids off at school then rush back to work for a 9am start. People will be rushed, unhappy and unproductive. We believe there is a better way. By giving our team the freedom to find that right work-life balance, we can ensure they enjoy their personal time as much as possible while being happy and productive when they work. Ultimately, it’s about trusting our team and making GBG the best possible place to work.”
