The University has enlisted GBG to automate its background checks for students working with children and caring for the vulnerable
London, UK. XX August 2018: GBG, the UK’s largest provider of criminal record checks, today announces that it has partnered with Bournemouth University to speed up the onboarding of its students, who are working with children and caring for vulnerable people.
Each year, the university processes around 700 criminal record checks on behalf of its students who have applied for courses which involve placements in schools and hospitals. These include professional NHS degree courses such as Physiotherapy and Midwifery.
With GBG OnlineDisclosures, the University is able to automate checks, meaning it will no longer have to bring in temporary staff during busy periods, such as clearing, to support with the administration of manual checks.
Thanks to its partnership with GBG OnlineDisclosures, the admissions team at Bournemouth University has managed to halve the time it takes to perform a criminal record check, when compared to last year.
Jon Williams, Head of Admissions at Bournemouth University, said: “We pride ourselves on providing an excellent student experience, so we’re delighted that GBG has already improved the service we provide to new applicants.
Since using GBG’s online solution, we’ve seen a significant difference in the time it takes and the money it costs to perform these essential checks.
The Post Office ID verification option allows the application to be completed locally at over 400 UK locations, instead of the student travelling to the south coast with original documents to confirm their identity.
Staff members no longer have to manually check students have completed the DBS application form accurately, leaving us with more time to support new entrants joining the University. The initial set up has been really easy, and it is extremely simple to use.”
Alister Humphreys, Managing Director for Employ & Comply at GBG, said: “Bournemouth University’s students do important and exceptional work with the most vulnerable people in our society. We’re proud to play a part in enabling the right people serve our communities”.
GBG became a founding member of the UK Criminal Records Trade Body (CRTB) earlier this year.
