London – 5th January 2012 – GB Group PLC, a leading global identity management specialist, has unveiled an enhanced version of its people verification solution that will allow businesses to identify the otherwise ‘invisible’ members of the population.
ConsentID, a solution built upon GB Group’s cutting edge Identity Verification technology, will identify those who cannot be traced by credit reference agencies because they have no credit or financial history. Using data from 33 million records, it is expected to improve verification by 14 per cent by tracking those who fall through the verification gap. This includes citizens who don’t use a credit card, don’t have a mortgage, or are not registered on the electoral roll so have no financial footprint.
“ConsentID will provide a more effective and cost-friendly alternative to credit rating agencies,” said John Lord, Managing Director at GB Group. “These organisations only capture data for around 80 per cent of the population, meaning there is a huge number of people who slip through the net – effectively, their lack of financial footprint means they are invisible to credit reference agencies.”
Lord continued, “These individuals are often the most digitally active, posing a real opportunity but with hidden dangers to online businesses looking to verify the identity of their customers. And, with the Government’s Race Online 2012, backed by Martha Lane Fox, we’re likely to see even more movement online from those without a web presence or online credit buying history. This poses a real challenge for how businesses enable transactions from those they cannot identify.”
“Using a unique set of data, ConsentID will enable online trading to be extended to individuals who have no previous buying history, while allowing retailers and online businesses to gain insight into their customer base.”
In addition to the data held by credit reference agencies, ConsentID will contain an exclusive, but highly secure, dataset consisting of names, addresses, ages, landline and mobile numbers from 33 million records, as well as identity information not available through traditional data sources. The solution has been built into GB Group’s propriety Identity Verification technology and is currently been rolled out to its customer base.
Lord commented, “GB Group is already a market leader in online verification and tracing software, but this new service will disrupt the competitive landscape by providing a better value, more effective solution to the retail industry, mobile phone companies, online dating and gaming sites and social networking organisations.”
