The Community Sport and Recreation Awards ceremony took place at St James' Palace in a sun soaked London on Wednesday 9 July. Following the acquisition of TMG CRB, GBG have continued the tradition of sponsoring The Community Sport and Recreation Awards. This year, we sponsored the "Volunteer Management Award" which was graciously received by Retford Swimming Club (RSC).
Presented by HRH, The Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward and GBG's Lee Hughes, this prestigious award celebrates the club, programme or scheme from across the country that makes the most of their volunteers. By offering volunteers training, skills and rewards to recognise their hard work, time and effort, Retford Swimming have been exemplary in engaging with their volunteers. It is a welcomed coincidence that the winner of this award not only uses our criminal record checking service, through The Amateur Swimming Association, but they are also a local club so it was with great pride that we presented Retford Swimming Club with this award.
From coaching swimmers and organising galas, to running courses on nutrition and even developing a new club website - volunteers are absolutely key to the club's success. RSC supports them in turn by investing in their training, enabling 21 new volunteer coaches and swimming teachers and 13 Amateur Swimming Assocation club helpers to gain their qualifications over the last three years!
Sallie Barker, Interim Chief Executive of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, said:
"This award recognises the fantastic example that Retford Swimming Club sets in how it recruits and supports its volunteers.
"There are more volunteers that give their valuable time to sport than in any other sector and without them most sport and recreation clubs simply wouldn't be able to function.
"Retford Swimming Club is an excellent example of a club that has embraced volunteers and helped them develop their skills to ensure the club continues to go from strength to strength."
GBG have a long history of supporting voluntary organisations meet their criminal record checking needs. We work with over 40 national governing bodies including: The Football Association, England Hockey, British Rowing, England Golf and Archery GB.
