Participating as a Data Service Broker for soft launch of Australian Death Check
Sydney, Australia – 5 March, 2020 – GBG (AIM:GBG), the global technology specialist in fraud & compliance management, identity verification and location data intelligence, today announced it will be participating as a Data Service Broker (DSB) for the soft launch of the Australian Death Check (ADC). Already a global leader in identity verification and authentication, this further boosts the extensive data set GBG can offer in Australia, as businesses strive to better cleanse and verify personal data, as well as take steps to stem the rise of identity fraud.
The Australian Death Check (ADC) is a new data cleansing service that will match customer data daily with over 2.5 million, up to date, government registry death records. Currently in trial phase, led by Queensland’s Registry of Birth, Deaths and Marriages, the service is a joint initiative from the state and territory registries and will provide the only official source of death data in Australia. As part of the soft launch, GBG will help to test and validate the service with selected customers as part of its greenID solution, prior to the ADC’s expected launch to market later in 2020.
In 2017, 15% of Australians (3.8 million) were aged 65 and over and this proportion is projected to grow steadily over the coming decades. In the face of this ageing population, businesses will need to remain proactive in ensuring customer data remains accurate. Following the Banking Royal Commission, the government has also stepped up regulation for key industries, in particular financial services and gaming, to eliminate instances of ‘fees for no service’, when someone is deceased. Furthermore, it is also critical to proactively cleanse data to minimise the risk of identity theft and fraud of deceased persons.
“Ensuring your customer data is accurate and up to date is critical, particularly when it pertains to deceased persons. The damage that can ensue from transacting with or marketing to a deceased person, can be devastating to the family left behind, as well as result in significant brand and reputational damage. To date, death data in Australia has lacked a single source of truth, but the ADC will close this gap in the market, making this data easily accessible and always up to date. As a leading identity verification provider, GBG is keen to support customers, particularly those struggling to meet regulatory and compliance obligations to enable compliance in this sensitive area,” said Carol Chris, Regional General Manager Australia, GBG.
“As we hit the ground in 2020, GBG can help businesses take control of their database, and ensure it’s as accurate and up to date as possible. Whilst it’s clearly the right thing to do, cleansing and decluttering your database can also help businesses to significantly improve the customer experience, reduce operational costs by eliminating waste, and reduce the financial impact of identity fraud and money laundering, with accurate customer data ultimately becoming a key enabler for growth.”
GBG has strong global credentials in identity verification with the ability to verify identities of 4.4 billion people across 72 countries. GBG is an approved Gateway Service Provider (GSP) for the Australian Government's Document Verification Service (DVS), which helps protect governments, businesses and Australians from identity crime. This reputation was further enhanced in 2018, when GBG acquired VIX Verify, an Australian-based identity verification and location intelligence specialist, whose flagship product, greenID is the market leading identity verification service. This technology and data further complemented and strengthened GBG’s existing fraud offerings and capabilities and extended its reach further across APAC.
