Vlad’s life @GBG

lai fun

We talk to our application engineer, Vladyslav Derevianko about unexpected journeys, sponsored walks and the importance of team members and family.

How was the GBG Challenge?

It was a fantastic opportunity to get together with other team members in Nottingham, combine our fundraising efforts for the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal and take part in an event that is immensely important to the many Ukrainians affected by the conflict.

I am Ukrainian and my family and friends live there. It is difficult to find the right words to explain how shocking it is to see on the news that war has started in your home country. In these circumstances the role of organisations and charities like the DEC is vital. Even the smallest contribution makes a difference and gives hope to someone in a desperate situation, and I am very happy to see GBG team members taking part.

“In March this year, I had to travel at short notice from the UK to the Ukraine-Poland border to meet my sister and nephew and from there to Estonia to obtain the UK visas that allowed them to travel back with me to the UK.”

What do you love about life at GBG?

It’s important to find the right balance between life and work, and our work when and where we want approach post-pandemic has had a positive impact on myself and my family, starting with routine things like childcare and adapting to unexpected events too.

In March this year, I had to travel at short notice from the UK to the Ukraine-Poland border to meet my sister and nephew and from there to Estonia to obtain the UK visas that allowed them to travel back with me to the UK. The journey and application process took one month altogether, and I was still able to work and help my team.

“Helping people verify their identity and keeping their identity data safe from fraud feels like important work and a big responsibility.”

Which team do you work with?

I work in our Application Support team, supporting customers on our identity verification solutions. Since I joined, I have had the opportunity to work on migrating our leading identity verification platform, ID3global to the Azure cloud. It was impressive to see so many teams working together and collaborating on multiple deliverables aiming to develop and enhance the solutions we offer our customers.

Do you find what you do challenging?

Absolutely. Every one of us does so much online these days, almost without realising it. Making that experience simple and safe, helping people verify their identity and keeping their identity data safe from fraud feels like important work and a big responsibility.

Building trust in an increasingly digital world is an ongoing process which requires continuous improvement. As a technology company, we always need to think about the pace of digital change and the scalability of our services and my team is here to support our customers whenever they need our help.

We're recruiting

Make life at GBG work for you.
