The millisecond demands of global eCommerce require speed and convenience. Consumer tolerance for poor digital experience is low; we all choose whoever gives us what we want with the least hassle and delay. But a speedy checkout won’t deliver any trainers to your door, so without accurate location data what we want won’t arrive at our address.

Data curation describes the process and tools our location experts use to analyse address data from different countries so that we can generate address records to the highest level of precision for Loqate customers. That means taking in data from multiple sources and combining that with industry-leading technology, local knowledge and cultural context.

How does the data curation process work?

Aggregating the data

The first step in our data curation process involves taking in location data from multiple reputable data suppliers from across the globe. We aggregate data from several postal, geospatial and local sources to give us a consistent and reliable single view of a location. We work with 36 high quality data suppliers covering premise-level location data across 249 countries and territories in 6,500 languages. On average, four million additional premises are added to these datasets every six weeks.

As new markets emerge and the world evolves, so too does our location data. We continuously research and evaluate data suppliers; rejecting data if the quality isn’t good enough and only selecting a data supplier if it will benefit Loqate customers, delivering the coverage and precision that they demand.

Address verification with premise-level precision at a global scale

Persistent data hierarchy

This location data curation process can only happen thanks to our team of Loqate data engineers who together spend over 3,000 hours a year researching, studying and evaluating global address data to make sure our solutions are delivering the best premise-level accuracy.

This team of engineers is also the driving force behind our intelligent machine engine, inputting the location algorithm, developing the logic, and determining the mapping.

Global addressing is complex, and there are always exceptions to the rule that can’t be picked up by technology alone. For countries that have complex addressing infrastructure, our engineers must analyse results and determine the best outcome for the customer.
